It all started on a chilly December day when I was feeling under the weather (read: miserable). Craving some soul-warming sundubu jjigae, I realized I had zero energy to drag myself to DubuYo at Sunway Pyramid. So, like any hungry modern human, I turned to Grab for help. Among the sea of Korean fried chicken listings, BAM—Oiso popped up like a beacon of hope.
Two sets caught my eye immediately:
Set 14: Spicy Beef Stew (육개장)
Set 8: Soft Tofu Stew (순두부찌개)

Because one stew is never enough for a cold, sick Aliya, I ordered both. When my food arrived, I was in for a surprise. Not only did I get the stews, but each came with a bowl of fluffy Korean rice and a bunch of side dishes. Jackpot!

Now, I know I’m allergic to rice (we have a complicated relationship), but it was right there, looking all innocent and inviting. One bite led to another…and let’s just say my allergy took the day off (with the help of my antihistamine)

So, lunch was the soft tofu stew, and I saved the spicy beef stew for an early dinner. Both were so good they almost cured my cold—well, at least my taste buds were healed.
I absolutely love how comforting the soft tofu in my stew is—it melts in my mouth and soaks up all the rich flavors of the broth. However, I couldn’t help but wish my sundubu jjigae had more than just three clams and a lone prawn swimming in the pot. A bit more seafood would have elevated this dish from satisfying to spectacular!
The spicy beef stew, on the other hand, was generously packed with meat, glass noodles, and mushrooms, all bursting with flavor. However, the meat could have been cooked longer to make it more tender. I found myself sipping the broth slowly, savoring every layer of its spicy, savory goodness that warmed me from the inside out as I braced against the chilly weather.
One day, I’ll finally visit Oiso in person to rekindle my love affair with their stews. And this time, I’ll try to snap some pics before diving in… if I can hold off that long. But for now, I guess GrabFood will have to do.
