Day 2 Adventures: Kelulut Bees & Strawberry Picking Fun!
Day two kicked off with… surprise, surprise! More content creation! Before we could head out for Amir’s work-related visit, I had to grab some shots for Hyleen.my. Just days before we left for Cameron Highlands, a gift box from Hyleen.my arrived, talk about perfect timing.
Check out some behind-the-scenes moments from my content creation process. It’s not always glamorous, but it’s always fun!
Then we headed off to Amir’s work, and while he was busy, Azfar and I enjoyed the breathtaking view at the property. As we were soaking it all in, the groundskeeper of the property came over and showed me something super exciting: wild kelulut bees living in a tree right there in the compound! These little guys are stingless bees, so no need to worry about getting stung. Want to see me touch their nest? (Spoiler: I did, and yes, I survived!)
Once we wrapped up the morning, it was time to focus on some family fun, especially for Azfar. We’ve done strawberry picking before, but this time we headed to Healthy Strawberry Farm. Let me tell you, this place is a total upgrade from the smaller gardens we’ve visited. Sure, the 500g box of strawberries here costs more than what you’d pay at your local grocery store, but believe me, it’s worth every ringgit. These strawberries are HUGE, juicy, and so sweet.

Here’s a pro tip if you’re planning to visit: if you want to enjoy the strawberries immediately, pick the deep red ones. They’re perfectly ripe and ready to eat, but they won’t last long, so munch away! But, if you want them to keep for a few days, go for the ones that are still a little greenish or yellowish near the stalk. They’ll ripen slowly and last a bit longer in your fridge. Either way, you’re in for a treat.
After our fruitful (pun intended!) strawberry picking session, we heard about a food festival happening in front of the Zenith Hotel. Now, you know I can’t resist a good food festival, so naturally, we made our way there. The place was buzzing with excitement, delicious food, local treats, and people soaking in the festive vibe. As I was recording, a kind vendor even offered us some of the food they were selling. What a treat for all of us!
But just as we were getting into it, the weather decided to crash the party. Another storm rolled in, and before we knew it, we were sprinting for cover in the nearest building. So much for our food festival fun! But that definitely didn’t kill our mood. If any, we were mesmerised watching the trees swayed in the wind while at the same time a bit scared for falling trees.
I wish I could publish the content about the food festival sooner, but the internet connection both on my mobile and the WiFi at our accommodation, was almost non-existent. The struggle is real! And this is what dampened my mood a little bit. Because I’m working away from office and was chasing my dateline, a place with weak internet connection is a no no.
Despite the weather, the day still felt full. Between the wild kelulut bees (still so amazed by them!), the groundskeeper gifted me a jar of kelulut bee honey and picking some of the best strawberries we’ve ever had, it was definitely memorable. Azfar had a blast, and let’s be honest, I’m always happy when we get to do something as hands-on and fun as strawberry picking.
Cameron Highlands might be unpredictable when it comes to weather, but that’s part of the charm, right? Rain or shine, there’s always something new to discover, whether it’s a hidden bee colony or a farm full of sweet strawberries. Visiting Cameron Highland during rainy season will surely lessen the activities available for us to do, but at the same time we are also able to relax and take things more slowly and enjoy the clean and fresh weather.
