My cousin and I are the definition of “so close yet so far.” We live just one postcode apart, but with our clashing schedules, meeting up feels as rare as finding a needle in a haystack.
So, when she randomly called on a Saturday afternoon and I had nothing on my plate, we knew it was a sign – it’s officially a date!
We were the last customers to arrive, which meant we had the whole restaurant to ourselves – well, except for a few staff quietly going about their work. We caught up on so many things, but that’s not what I’m here to write about today.
This was my first time visiting Kopimeo Lacarne, so naturally, I was curious. Tucked away in a shop lot near the Seksyen 9 Shell station, it’s the kind of place you’d probably miss unless someone tipped you off.
Thankfully, my cousin was my guide. She told me it’s quite the hot spot among her colleagues, and apparently, TripAdvisor agrees – it’s even been dubbed Section 9 Shah Alam’s best neighborhood eatery.

With the promise “jolly good food and coffee” boldly written on its canopy, my expectations were high.
The first thing to grab my attention was the green door, standing out against the black window trimmings and a red brick frame. It had a quirky charm that make you feel welcomed.

The interior is spacious, its white wall, black Window frames and a few potted plants makes for a relaxing ambiance perfect for a gathering.
We went all in and ordered five dishes, starting with the Summer Salmon, a pan-grilled salmon fillet paired with roasted potatoes, French beans, and a honey lime herb dressing, topped with their signature strawberry-chili salsa.

Who needs a trip to Cameron Highlands for strawberry sambal when Kopimeo Lacarne has its own version right here in Shah Alam?
The strawberry-chili salsa adds just a mild kick, perfect for those who enjoy a little spice. But if you’re spice-averse (or feeding a picky eater), no worries! The salsa is delicately placed on top, so you can enjoy the salmon with or without it. That’s such a thoughtful plating!
The salmon skin was perfectly crispy, while the inside stayed tender and juicy. It tastes best when you pair it with the dressing and strawberry chili salsa – trust me on this one. While some might prefer their salmon a little undercooked, Kopimeo Lacarne cooked mine just the way I like it. If you prefer yours softer, I’m sure the chef could adjust it for you.
Now, let’s talk about the roasted potatoes. They were delicious, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and seasoned just right. These same potatoes are also served with the Lamb Mess and Peruvian Chicken, two other dishes we tried. Honestly, I wouldn’t mind eating a whole plate of just these potatoes!

The Peruvian Chicken is a roasted and grilled whole spring chicken, served with Aji Verde (a spicy green sauce), roasted potatoes, and onions. I copy pasted this directly from the menu.
Now, confession time, this was my first encounter with Aji Verde. Thank goodness for my trusty friend Google! Turns out, Aji Verde is a creamy Peruvian green sauce made with cilantro, jalapeños, and mayonnaise.
With my curiosity satisfied, let’s get back to the chicken. The outside was nice and crispy, but the inside felt a little dry for my taste. Maybe that’s how Peruvian-style chicken is meant to be cooked? The marinade definitely came through with hints of lime and mild spices, making it flavorful enough for my son to enjoy even without the sauce.
Speaking of the Aji Verde, it was surprisingly good! The creamy texture paired perfectly with the chicken, and the spice level was mild – coming from someone who avoids fiery food, that’s saying something.

Here is the description of the Mexican Quesabirria Tacos in the menu, slow-cooked pulled beef wrapped in crispy tortillas, oozing with mozzarella cheese, fresh cilantro, and pickled onions, served with a side of consommé for dipping.
I only managed to grab a small bite of this dish, the tacos were perfectly crispy, just as they should be. The consommé was packed with flavor – chili, onion, garlic, and spices all blending together deliciously. But the filling oddly reminded me of anchovies! That was quite unexpected.

As for the pizza, the sourdough crust was soft and tender with just the right amount of chew, and those blisters around the rim are just beautiful.
The toppings included tomato concasse, roast beef, pepperoni, onions, oregano, mozzarella cheese, and jalapeños. While the toppings were undeniably delicious, for me as a sourdough fan, the crust stole my attention.

Despite the name Lamb Mess, the dish was anything but a mess – it was downright delicious. The lamb, though a bit chewy in some spots, was mostly tender and flavorful. But the real showstopper was the honey mustard mint sauce. And let’s not forget the grilled eggplant, which was a delightful surprise. You don’t often see lamb paired with eggplant, but honestly, it’s a combo I didn’t know I needed.
And that’s a wrap on the five dishes we devoured on our little date! Will we come back? Absolutely. There are so many more dishes calling my name. Plus, arriving so close to closing time meant some items were already sold out – clearly a sign that another visit is in order.
Did our date end there? Of course not! When the restaurant closed, we simply moved the conversation to a new spot. Gotta make the most of our rare meet-ups!
So, will you give Kopimeo Lacarne a try? If you do, let me know what you think of the food – I’d love to hear your take!
