Tears & Fire – My Dinner at Tomyam Azmee

Tears were shed at Tomyam Azmee. Real tears. And not the “aww, this food is so good” kind—more like “help, my tongue is on fire” kind.

Bright Tomyam Azmee sign, inviting you to come.

Okay, I might sound lame, but I think this was my first time ordering Thai-style grilled beef (Daging Bakar). At first bite? Not bad. A little peppery, but totally manageable. But then… oh, then… the spice crept up on me like a ninja. One bite, fine. Two bites, okay. Three bites? My tongue was basically begging for mercy.

Thai-style Grilled Beef

I swear I tasted black pepper. Maybe white pepper too. But honestly, by the time the spice took over, I wasn’t sure if I was tasting the beef or my own regrets.

But even with the salad trick, I was chugging ice water by the gallons. At one point, I think my body was just 50% happy regret and 50% ice water.

And yet… I could not stop eating. Like, WHY? The pain was real, but so was my addiction. I even went ahead and dipped my beef into the sweet, sour, extra spicy sauce—what an intriguing twist! Because clearly, I enjoy suffering. And yes, more tears were shed.

Then, in a moment of pure desperation, I discovered something: eating the beef with fresh salad kinda helped with the heat. Is this science? Or just my brain clinging to hope? Someone, please explain.

Daging Masak Merah

Now, aside from my spicy beef-induced crisis, we also ordered daging masak merah, telur bungkus, and sayur kailan ikan masin to go with rice—for the boys. The grilled beef? That was mine (and mine alone).

Portions were big. The daging masak merah was hearty—took me straight back to the times I used to travel to Kelantan and Terengganu for work. Every Thai restaurant has it on the menu, but each place does it a little differently. And I love the one at Tomyam Azmee.

Kailan Ikan Masin

And the kailan ikan masin was fresh, perfectly cooked and not too salty. It’s a delightful bonus that the kailan retains its satisfying crunch! What’s more, I love when they use rich, flavorful salted fish instead of the super salty kind that makes you chug water like you just crossed a desert.

Telur Bungkus

The telur bungkus was delicious, but I think it could’ve been even better with a little bit of chili. But then again, it was made to order—specifically non-spicy—because, surprise surprise, I’m the only one in the family who can tolerate a bit of heat. So, yeah… I suffered alone.

So that’s it. Will I come back to Tomyam Azmee next time? Definitely. Will I cry again? Also definitely. 10/10 would suffer again for the Thai-style grilled beef
