Run, Gimbal, Run: The Coway Chronicles

Written by

This is the second year the three of us have joined the Coway Run, and this year, Azfar officially became a participant. His excitement was like a tornado on Red Bull, bouncing off the walls, full of energy. Every day he’d ask, “When is Coway Run, Mommy?” I was exhausted months before the event even started.

I really should have kept it a secret from him until, like, five minutes before we left.

The big day finally arrived, and we woke up early, all bright eyed and bushy tailed, thinking we’d get to the venue before anyone else. Hah! It turns out that everyone else had the same brilliant idea. By the time we rolled in at 6:30 a.m., it looked like a festival. Finding a parking spot was like trying to win the lottery, but after what felt like an hour of circling around, we finally found one. So much for being early, by the time we parked, we barely made it on time, and all plans of checking out the game booths were out the window. We were lucky to start the race (more like a scenic stroll) on time.

We first started together but lost each other along the way.

Some friends joined us at the starting line, but somewhere between “Let’s go!” and “Are we there yet?” we lost each other in the crowd. Oops.

These kinds of events are what I love most, getting up early to soak up the sunshine, breathing in fresh air, and pretending like we’re athletic. I thought, why not bring my gimbal to get some epic footage? Little did I know I signed myself up for a bonus workout. After holding that thing for a while, it felt like I was carrying a mini fridge. Who knew a gimbal could turn into a piece of gym equipment? I spent most of the run (walk) switching the gimbal between my left and right hands, and at one point, I was running after the boys like an action movie cameraman, all while trying not to faceplant. Clearly, cameramen deserve way more credit. I might need to start training just to keep up with the boys and the gear next time.

Still smiling hahaha
With our cousins, maybe we should form a family squad next year
Discussing the route

We bumped into some cousins along the route. Would have been nice to know they were coming, we could’ve formed a family squad! The more, the merrier, as they say.

We survived!

By the time we finished, the lines for the game booths were ridiculous. But Azfar had his heart set on getting his very own Biddy, (the Coway plushie), honestly I want one for myself too, so we decided to brave the lines. After all, what’s a little queue? We thought playing a few games would land us the prize, but oh no, there was a lucky draw involved!

The crowd was packed tighter than a tin of sardines, and people were getting crankier by the second. Just as we were about to give up hope, a Good Samaritan appeared out of nowhere and handed us not one, but two Biddy plushies and a Coway thermos for Azfar! Seriously, luck was on our side.

With our Biddy the plushie

With our plushie victory secured, we skipped out of the line and went straight to lunch, mission accomplished.

To be continued…
