Huawei’s ‘Unfold the Classic’ Exhibition

Written by

Okay, let’s be real—when you hear tri-fold smartphone, your first thought is probably, Wait, what? How does that even work? Well, that’s exactly why I had to check out Huawei’s ‘Unfold the Classic’ pop-up event at Pavilion KL today. They’re making some pretty bold claims with their latest foldable tech, so of course, I had to see it for myself.

And let me tell you—it did not disappoint.

A Phone That Folds Three Ways?!

Huawei Mate XT, can be both a mobile phone and a tablet.

The head turner at this exhibition is the HUAWEI Mate XT—the world’s first commercial tri-fold smartphone. That means it doesn’t just fold in half like your usual flip or foldable phone—it folds in THREE. If you ever wished your phone could be a tablet, a compact phone, or something in between, well… wish granted. Yeay for less gadget to lug around.

Now, I’m no engineer, but apparently, the magic lies in Huawei’s Advanced Precision Hinge System and some Multi-Directional Flexible Material (fancy terms, but basically, it makes the screen crazy durable and smooth to fold in both directions). Watching the demo, I had one thought: This is straight out of a sci-fi movie.

Check-out my post about this exhibiting.

The Toughest Foldable—Meet the HUAWEI Mate X6

Right next to it, the Mate X6 was flexing (pun intended) its durability. And I mean literally—they had a demonstration where its its inner screen, lifted a 150kg sports bike. Not gonna lie, that’s a pretty dramatic way to prove a point, but it worked. You should really visit and see for yourself.

The inner screen is able to lift a 150kg sports bike.

Between the second-gen Kunlun Glass, the Aviation-Grade Aluminum middle frame, and a hinge that can handle constant opening and closing, this phone is made for people who don’t baby their gadgets (like me—hint, hint).

Beyond Phones, Luxury Meets Tech

The Huawei MatePad Pro 13.2-inch tablet comes pre-installed with the free GoPaint app, a versatile painting application designed for art enthusiasts.

Now, it wasn’t just about foldables. Huawei also had their MatePad Pro 13.2, which they’re calling a PC-level productivity tablet. I tried typing on it, and it actually felt like a proper laptop, thanks to the NearLink keyboard. Oh, and the PaperMatte display has no glare, no fingerprints—just smooth, eye-friendly scrolling.

But my personal favourite is the HUAWEI WATCH Ultimate. This thing screams luxury. It’s got a Liquid Metal case, a Nano-Tech Ceramic Bezel, and three different strap options depending on whether you’re feeling sporty or boujee. And get this—Golf Mode actually gives strike advice and Plays-Like Distance (adjusts for slope so you know exactly how far to hit). If only it could swing the club for you too.

And if you haven’t, do visit my previous blog on another Huawei Watch GT 5 here where I attended the the Huawei #TechWithLove event also at Pavilion KL, in November, 2024. And while you are at it, watch this reel too and see for yourself what this Huawei Watch GT 5 can do!

Should You Check It Out?

If you’re even a little curious about the future of smartphones, premium wearables, or just want to play around with some cool tech, this pop-up is worth a visit. The ‘Unfold the Classic’ exhibition is happening until 25 February at Pavilion KL, so if you’re in the area, go see for yourself what this tri-fold hype is all about.

Who knows? Your next phone might just fold in more ways than one.

“Why not put aside just a portion of that money and let Takaful do the heavy lifting?”
