Smoky, Saucy, and Oh-So-Satisfying: Welcome to Ayam Bakar Station, Port Dickson!

I could smell the grilled lamb and chicken even before I stepped out of my car—like a delicious smoky welcome mat inviting me in. Coming here on a weekday, especially a Friday in February, means no crazy crowds yet, which is a win for my stomach and my patience.

We stumbled upon this spot about seven years ago after an impromptu hike to the Port Dickson Lighthouse. And by ‘hike,’ I mean I was totally unprepared—rocking a green shirt dress and sandal like I was heading to brunch, not a trek. We were just aimlessly driving when we saw the lighthouse signboard and thought, ‘Eh, why not?’

After sweating buckets and questioning our life choices, we drove a little further south and found this gem of a restaurant. It’s the kind of place locals and the hardworking folks around PD flock to—no frills, no gimmicks—just good and satisfying food.

Simple and delicious menu.

The menu is simple, straightforward, no-nonsense. Honey-grilled chicken, honey-grilled lamb, and lamb shank curry. Get them solo, or add RM2 for a set with rice and salad. Drinks? RM3 per person, and it’s free flow—so hydrate (or sugar rush) to your heart’s content with their fruity cordial options.

The lamb and chicken? Grilled over an open flame till tender, with that perfect char that gives it a slight caramelized sweetness. And before you judge me, yes, I know it’s grilled with honey. And yes, I am fully aware of my sugar intake. But let’s just agree that today is my official cheat day.

If you’re dining in, rice and salad are free flow too! Meaning, I can keep piling on rice like I don’t have responsibilities.

Now, let’s talk about the gravy. This is what makes this place a repeat offender in my food cravings. It’s subtly sweet, with just the “I don’t know what, but it’s good” flavour. I was this close to asking for the secret recipe, but I didn’t wanna risk getting side-eyed… or banned.

Oh, and the sambal? Fiery. Spicy. Addictive. My taste buds did a mini investigation, and we suspect shrimp paste, soy sauce, and definitely bird’s eye chili are involved. But whatever the recipe, all I know is that pairing that grilled lamb with sambal, steaming rice, and a side of crunchy salad? Chef’s kiss. No wonder I keep coming back.

If you haven’t tried this place yet, make sure to drop by the next time you’re in Port Dickson!

Attention Content Creators: Unpaid Collabs Could Be Costlier Than You Think!

Recently, I came across an unpaid collaboration offering only food vouchers. But here’s the catch: they required a TIN (Taxpayer Identification Number) for e-invoicing.

This raised a red flag. Could this mean even unpaid collaborations—where we receive products or vouchers—are taxable?
